Last week, I spent three days at the Heidi Hope Photography workshop and it was honestly one of the best business decisions I've made since I've opened the doors to Shannon Mulligan Photography.
Heidi Hope Photography is located in Cranston, Rhode Island and is owned by Heidi and her husband Shaun. To say they were the most gracious hosts would be an understatement. From the moment I walked through the doors of the studio, I felt comfortable, at home, and welcomed. Heidi and Shaun were so down to earth, I felt like I had known them for years. After I ogled the 3,000 square foot studio, equipped with a newborn room, two offices, a full kitchen, a prop room to die for and a HUGE floor to ceiling windowed room, I realized I was about to be in for the best three days. Not only were Heidi, Shaun, and their staff amazing, the other photographers I met were awesome. I know we all learned from one another, and what else can you ask for but support from fellow photographers.
Up until this point, I was going with the flow as my business slowly increased yearly but was still not at the place I hoped it would have been. I know I have the skills and determination to commit fully to this profession, but I was lacking something. After the workshop, it clicked. I don't want to be like any other photographer out there. I want to own my creativeness and uniqueness, therefore, Shannon Mulligan Photography is going to become a boutique photography business. Now when you think boutique, you think of a cute, quant store front that offers specialized items but it's just not that, it's the relationships you build with your clients, so they feel like family, just like I did when I walked through HHP's doors.
"Being a Boutique Business isn't about what you sell....Instead, "being boutique" is about how you operate-it's a model of doing business, a filter for your business decision, and a mind-set that makes your customers say you were worth every penny." -Sarah Petty and Erin Verbeck, Worth Every Penny.
With that being said, SMP will be doing some revamping and some re-organizing to make the customer experience that much better. I want you to feel at ease from the initial contact with me until your gallery is hanging beautifully in your home. I will also be offering some new items (hint-hint Organic Bloom Frames) and SMP's collections will be simplified so you are never overwhelmed by what is offered to you.
I cannot wait to start sharing with you all my other ideas and thoughts, but this post is already too long and I wanted to share with you some of the cutest, most well behaved kids and beautiful mama's to be. All sets, set up's, props and ideas were created by Heidi Hope and Mary Maloney from Pebbles and Polka Dots Photography. If you'd like to see some behind-the scenes shots from the workshop, check me out on Instagram where I was updating hourly!
Oh and remember I mentioned all those amazing women I got to spend three days with....please take a few minutes and check out their beautiful work! It was such a pleasure to hang out with them, compare stories and encourage one another to take our businesses to the next level.
