Here it is…The Mayernik’s Garden!
Come early spring, you can find Matt and I out in the garden prepping for the upcoming season. This year we have extended our garden by adding four more raised boxes; making it a total of 15 raised beds equaling 470 square feet as well as our new herb garden that has 25 separate boxes with about 150 square feet. And to think this is just our second year of gardening!
As you can see; this is a very important part of our life style. There is nothing better than popping a sun kissed cherry tomato into your mouth; picked right off the vine. We have a wide variety of vegetables and started some fruit this year; like blueberries; strawberries; and rhubarb.
We start seedlings come the New Year in our indoor work room with grow lights so come the first weekend after frost; we are able to start planting. We also have three large compost bins that we are always rotating by adding brown and green matter too which than goes into each of the raised beds to help with nutrition!
Matt keeps an amazing record of everything we’ve planted and harvested. It is not an easy task but since we both enjoy it so much; it does not seem like a chore.
Once we harvest; about 2-3 times a week; we are always looking for new recipes to try and new things to make. We do preserve what we can by freezing and canning; and are always looking to share our abundance with friends, family, and neighbors.
I know this is a longer than normal post; and I do hope you are enjoying it, but I feel like I can chat for hours about the garden and what we grow! I will be doing a garden post for the next three months so you can see the progress of what we do with all of our produce throughout the growing season.
And now here are some of the beauties that grow in The Mayernik’s Garden in North Haledon, NJ.
